Creating A Solid Research Paper – 5 Basic Methods You Should Employ

In writing a great research paper you need to bring you’re A-Game. This can mean a number of different things to different people with different writing methods. And we know that hearing about all these different methods can be a bit confusing We spoke to the experts and developed a simple but effective list of methods you should absolutely employ in order to create a solid research paper:

  1. Develop a Writing Plan
  2. Start off by developing a writing plan. Look at your deadline and work backwards, creating due dates for all the milestones you need to hit in order to create a great document. You’re going to run into a few unexpected hurdles, so be sure you’ve given yourself some free days that you can use when you need to catch up.

  3. Take Great Research Notes
  4. When you start reading resources, be sure you take extensive notes, possibly more than you will actually use in your document. The reason for this is that you don’t want to miss some key piece of evidence that could help strengthen your argument or citation information you will only have to double-back and check for accuracy later. Be sharp and take great notes!

  5. Create an Outline and Thesis
  6. It’s surprising that more students skip this step entirely and think that by jumping right into the writing portion of the assignment, they will get done fast or produce a better document. Creating an outline is an effective way of organizing all the content you have picked up from your readings. You don’t want all those ideas swimming around your head without any real direction. Get everything down in an outline and be sure to draft up a thesis statement for guidance.

  7. Write the First Draft Early
  8. Stick to your writing plan and start composing the first draft immediately. Refer to your outline constantly, especially if you find yourself getting off track often. Your outline will remind you of the important points you absolutely need to touch on. Be quick and efficient. Don’t stop under any circumstances and try to get your first draft completed in a few hours.

  9. Revise, Edit and Proofread
  10. The last step in creating a great research paper is to give yourself enough time to revise, edit and proofread attentively and critically. This shouldn’t come as a surprise, but the more time you can commit to do each of these exercises separately and with your complete attention, the better your assignment will be.
